but isn’t standing out or exciting your customers.
but need to balance creativity with real-world constraints.
but it’s unclear what will have the biggest impact.
but without introducing manufacturing risks.
but it’s hard to know where to focus.
but making meaningful innovation is difficult to prioritise.
We combine design, engineering, and real-world outdoor experience to help you identify the right opportunities, refine your products, and bring meaningful innovation to market. All in ways that truly resonate with your customers.
Every project is tailored to your product, your customers, and your goals. Whether that’s developing new concepts, refining existing designs, hitting funding targets, or solving complex design challenges.
Some examples of how we’ve helped brands innovate, refine their products, and create solutions that perform better and resonate with their customers.

Challenge:
Design a safety-critical buoyancy aid for elite SailGP athletes — balancing protection, performance, and comfort in one of the most demanding racing environments in the world.
What we did:
We worked closely with Spinlock and the British SailGP team to understand real-world use. Through rapid prototyping and iterative testing, we refined the design to integrate advanced features including custom electronics, emergency air supply, and aerodynamic shaping — all while maintaining compliance with strict safety standards.
Outcome:
A high-performance, race-ready buoyancy aid delivered in just 6 months — combining safety, agility, and athlete performance, and successfully used to win by the GBR SailGP team in competition.

Challenge:
Create a new range of rugged, waterproof outdoor bags that could perform in harsh environments while also appealing to modern users across outdoor and urban use.
What we did:
We developed a complete product family — from hip packs to flight luggage — using a modular design approach. By focusing on real use cases (e.g. climbing, travel, commuting), we created shared components and features that improved usability, consistency, and efficiency across the range.
Outcome:
A cohesive, versatile product range designed around real customer needs — combining durability, functionality, and strong brand identity, ready for production and market launch.

Challenge
We The Free needed products that did more than function well. They had to reflect the brand’s identity while creating a meaningful emotional connection with customers in a highly competitive lifestyle market.
What we did
We took a user-led approach, designing around real-world use while carefully balancing ergonomics, usability, and visual identity. Every decision, from form and materials to detailing, was shaped to reinforce the brand and enhance how customers experience the product day-to-day.
Outcome
A product direction that not only performs effectively, but deepens customer connection and strengthens brand differentiation. Showing how considered design can elevate both usability and emotional appeal in a crowded market.

Challenge:
Design a flight case capable of protecting high-value sports wheelchairs during international travel — while remaining lightweight, usable, and practical for athletes.
What we did:
We developed a modular, durable flight case solution designed for protection, longevity, and ease of use. The design allows for individual components to be repaired or replaced, extending product life and improving sustainability.
Outcome:
A robust, user-focused solution that protects equipment in transit while remaining practical and maintainable — supporting athletes travelling globally with confidence.
