Capsule Hotel Sleeping Pod

Sleeep has redefined the traditional capsule hotel design.
Overview
Capsule Hotel Sleeping Pod

Originating in Japan, the capsule hotel concept offers a cost-effective solution for overnight accommodation by providing individual capsule bed spaces within a compact area. Surprisingly, six to twelve capsules can occupy the same space as a traditional hotel room, making it an ideal choice for densely populated urban areas with high commercial property values.

Sleeep, inspired by this innovative concept, has redefined the traditional capsule hotel design by enhancing the sense of space, incorporating premium natural materials, and creating a luxurious yet affordable environment. By strategically selecting prime city centre locations and fostering a community through their innovative mobile application, Sleeep has further elevated the guest experience.

Whether seeking a brief respite with an afternoon nap or a convenient space for personal grooming and refreshment between business engagements and social outings, Sleeep provides a sophisticated and multifunctional setting perfect for city living.

The Product

SLEEEP approached us with a problem. They had a proven capsule hotel concept in the center of Hong Kong, built with 4 prototype pods. However the time and cost of building the prototypes was inhibiting them from expanding.

We took the time to fully explore their current pods, from user experience through to the minutest of details as the pods passed through the workshop. From here a full list of pain points was created and we took a ground up approach to redesigning the pods.

The Process

By breaking the pod down into smaller sections, we improved efficiencies both at the factory and installation at the hotel. We removed time consuming manufacturing techniques such as steaming the curved interiors, and replaced them with CNC parts and veneers. The time saved here meant SLEEEP could focus on the user experience, even down to the smallest of details. We were able to achieve a finish where there were no visible fixings to the user, which gave a seamless experience.

It was this attention to detail which won SLEEEP the coveted Red Dot design Award.

The work didn’t stop at the award however, the next phase called for a ultra minimalistic pod to be rolled out in a larger hotel. Next time we’re in Hong Kong we know where we’ll be staying.
