Bear Butt approached Mouse with a clear brief: create a 5-in-1 hammock camping blanket with a defined set of features that could support a successful product launch. Mouse took the project from initial brief through to final factory-finished sample, delivering a product ready for manufacture and Kickstarter launch.
The result was a lightweight, 3-season blanket designed to work as a blanket, poncho, hammock underquilt, backup sleep sack and pillow, while still feeling simple, refined and easy to use.
This 3-season blanket was designed to work as a blanket, poncho, hammock underquilt, backup sleep sack and pillow, all within one lightweight and highly packable product. Measuring 213cm x 152cm, weighing 540g and packing down to 35cm x 27cm, it used a water-resistant polyester outer with a DWR coating.
A major focus was delivering this level of functionality without making the product feel over-engineered. Hidden details, internal construction features and carefully integrated hardware helped maintain a clean, minimal aesthetic while supporting multiple modes of use.
Starting from a defined feature brief, Mouse developed the concept through hands-on prototyping, testing and multiple rounds of refinement. Two prototype rounds were completed in the UK workshop, followed by two factory sample rounds to prepare the product for manufacture.
The challenge was to integrate a high level of functionality into a blanket that still looked simple and felt intuitive in use. The project launched successfully on Kickstarter, demonstrating Mouse’s ability to take a soft-goods product from brief to production-ready outcome.
