When one of our long-term partners approached us to help modernise their lighting system for portable and temporary exhibition stands, we saw an opportunity to rethink a product category that had been left behind in the LED revolution.
At Mouse, we believe that great design starts with understanding real-world frustrations and in this case, there were plenty.
The exhibition industry had long relied on halogen lighting: hot, heavy, inefficient, and prone to burnout.
When we spoke with exhibition contractors and end users, three main issues stood out:
It became clear that moving to LED technology wasn’t just about energy efficiency, it was a chance to redesign the entire lighting experience.
Before moving into design, we ran a series of lighting experiments to determine the perfect colour temperature and lumen output. These early “mules” allowed us to test everything from the warmth of the light to how evenly it illuminated display graphics.
The findings surprised us:
With the technical foundations established, our focus shifted to form and usability. Exhibition lighting should enhance what’s on display, not compete with it.
We developed a series of slim, unobtrusive housings that integrate seamlessly into modular stand systems, ensuring the graphics remain the hero.
Thanks to lower heat generation, we could transition from metal to lightweight plastic casings, reducing both cost and weight while maintaining strength and visual appeal.
The final system delivers a smarter, cleaner, and more flexible lighting solution — one that simplifies setup, improves energy efficiency, and enhances the visual experience at every event.
Users can now power multiple lights from a single socket, transport them effortlessly, and achieve consistent, professional lighting across their exhibition spaces.
At Mouse, this project shows how listening to users, prototyping early, and iterating fast can transform even familiar products into something smarter, leaner, and more sustainable.
